Talking New Drive

Hi all! I just added a new drive but can't store information to it. This is what it says...

Disk /dev/sda: 9105 MB, 9105023488 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1106 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 14 1106 8779522+ 8e Linux LVM

Disk /dev/sdb: 36.7 GB, 36703918080 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4462 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

How do I use the second drive? I know it's simple but I just can't figure it out. Can someone help me?

mount your new drive to any of your directories. Then you can do everything.

Example #mount newdrive_name /mnt

I hope it may helps you.

Question Need more info

When you say second drive, I assume you mean /dev/sdb

Looks like it needs to be:
a) partitioned
b) formatted
c) mounted or added to your LVM

What distro are you using?
Do you want to add it your LVM or do you want to mount it.
Do you know what file system (ext3, fat32, ntfs, xfs, etc.) you want on it?
If you don't know the answers, then what are you going to use the drive for?

I just want to use it to store files. I am typing [root@localhost ~]# mount newdrive_sdb /mt ext3

I'm trying but this is what I'm getting...
Usage: mount -V : print version
mount -h : print this help
mount : list mounted filesystems
mount -l : idem, including volume labels
So far the informational part. Next the mounting.
The command is `mount [-t fstype] something somewhere'.
Details found in /etc/fstab may be omitted.
mount -a [-t|-O] ... : mount all stuff from /etc/fstab
mount device : mount device at the known place
mount directory : mount known device here
mount -t type dev dir : ordinary mount command
Note that one does not really mount a device, one mounts
a filesystem (of the given type) found on the device.
One can also mount an already visible directory tree elsewhere:
mount --bind olddir newdir
or move a subtree:
mount --move olddir newdir
One can change the type of mount containing the directory dir:
mount --make-shared dir
mount --make-slave dir
mount --make-private dir
mount --make-unbindable dir
One can change the type of all the mounts in a mount subtree
containing the directory dir:
mount --make-rshared dir
mount --make-rslave dir
mount --make-rprivate dir
mount --make-runbindable dir
A device can be given by name, say /dev/hda1 or /dev/cdrom,
or by label, using -L label or by uuid, using -U uuid .
Other options: [-nfFrsvw] [-o options] [-p passwdfd].
For many more details, say man 8 mount .

remember I'm new at this.

johnsossa,

To give you the best advice please answer all of kzutter's questions. If you don't know the answer post the result of the following four commands.

# cat /etc/fedora-release
# lvscan
# fdisk -l (lower case L not a 1)
# df -T
