kernel recompilation- Fedora 11

Hello,

I am a new Fedora user, i just installed Fedora 11 on my machine AMD 64 Athlon i686.
I want ro recompile my linux kernel after changing some source code in it.
my actual kernel version is kernel-2.6.30.

Could anybody tell me the steps in order to recompile my kernel?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Can I ask why you installed an old and outdated version of Fedora? You know, the latest stable version is Fedora 15, and almost to be Fedora 16. I recommend you definitely upgrade....

As far as recompiling, what method did you use to grab the kernel source? Via source rpm? From the kernel github? For a reference, see the following link:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...fedora-818263/

FYI, I found that link on google, which is here - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...1766l2-3.3l6l0

I highly recommend that you search next time before you post a new thread, especially a thread that has been covered numerous times.

Cheers,

Josh

First thank u for ur advise, I did like u told me and i installed fedora 15.
To recompile my kernel, I followed this link (i found a french version) http://doc.fedora-fr.org/wiki/Recomp...u_noyau_Fedora.
In step 7.6, generation of packages, the following command is used:
Quote:
$ cd $HOME/rpmbuild/SPECS
$ rpmbuild --target i686 -ba kernel.spec
COMPILE
To recompile the kernel after making source codes modifications, the used:
Quote:
$ cd $HOME/rpmbuild/SPECS
$ rpmbuild --target i686 -bp kernel.spec
......
$ make gconfig
make
# cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.40.4-5.fc15.X86_64
# cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.6.35.12-88.fc14.i686-AX25
# make modules_install
....
Is it the right way to recompile the kernel?
If i want to recompile the kernel(while keeping same kernel version), can i repeat the COMPILE part after changing the EXTRAVERSION ?

thanks you

Thanks
