Kernel recompilation for transparent proxy produces kernel soft lockup

Hi all,

I am trying to upgrade my kernel in order to have a fully transparent proxy but I am facing problem once the kernel is installed.

I have followed this blog post: http://blog.loadbalancer.org/configu...sparent-proxy/

So I have recompiled the 2.6.25 kernel with support for TProxy but every time I am using it, I have BUG, mainly soft lockups on the CPU.

I am running the server in a VMWare VM.

What I am looking for is a method for debugging this kernel problem and how to proceed. Obviously, if you ever came across the same kind of problem, I will be more than happy to know how you fixed it.

Any input will be much appreciate!
If you need any more information, please let me know
Thanks in advance
G.

Here is one example of the bug I am seeing:

Some more googling pointed me to the following link: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/164904

Now my VM has only 1 cpu and it seems to be working ok...

I will keep an eye on it though!
