ACPI and mouse problem in FC3

I have just installed Fedora Core 3 on Compaq Presario 700 and it woorks fine, exept two details:
1. There is something wrong with ACPI, the cooling fan has just two speeds 0 and max. in windows it used to run on different speed, according to CPU temperature. In fedora it just starts when CPU is really hot. How can I configure the ACPI support?

2. Can someone tell me how to switch off the touchpad mouse. It drives me crazy when I type and accidentaly touch the touchpad and cursor jumps somewhere else and I end up writing there.

thanks

There's a HOWTO for ACPI here in the Linux Tutorials section off of the Main Menu.

As for the touchpad, don't load the synaptic driver. Choose Add/Remove Applications and uninstall it.

You will have no touchpad at all after that. Try setting the speed in the mouse settings before going extreme.

In the meantime I switched to Debian Sarge but the problems still remain. I will read the tutorials about ACPI, but the touchpad mouse is still a problem.
Usualy I use external PS/2 mouse. Is there any way to disable the touchpad mouse while you use the external one?
