need a few good repository recommendations, please.
Could anyone recommend a handful of repositories that will be good for a newbie to use to keep debian stable and as up to date as stability allows? I would like good multimedia sources too.
I am using DreamLinux, a debian based distro. Its sources are debian or they don't work. There are at least 30 of them, ranging from an Ubuntu source, a Morhpix source, a marillat source and scads of debian sources. I would like to have a handful that will get the job done. A few debian sources for the basics, a good multimedia one, etc.. Help in english is pretty much not available on their forums.
This is what I use for my Debian Etch/Sid installation. If you were using Debian, it's all you'd need, but you're not using Debian, so ... no encouragment, let alone, guarantees.
Code:
# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Etch_ - Official Snapshot amd64 Binary-1 (20060914)]/ etch main
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main
#deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
#deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main
#deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ experimental main
#deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ experimental main
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main
6 pages of people laundry listing as many as 20+ (and occasionally 30+) repositories over and over again has nothing whatsoever to do with my question which I will restate because you did not read it well enough.

Choose a mirror near you from http://www.debian.org/mirror/list Check if it has high speeds for quick downloading, usually the ftp.xx.debian.org sites (replace xx with your 2 letter country code) are pretty quick.
<edit: that still leaves you w/o much multimedia stuff and such. For that you really need those individual repo's you've said to dislike in your sources.list>
