where the hell is cheese? one more reason not to use linux

Posted 02-13-2010 at 01:45 PM by gajuambi

I am trying to install cheese in RHEL5.4 from 18 days now and no luxk.
If linux is really an operating system to save time and money for business then thats a big lie.
It is not just me all around the world(just google it)nobody seems to know how to compile cheese or even install it.
Tried all versions of rpm but it always ends up with dependencies which can never be resolved, it is just an endless loop.
Finally tried to download the tarball and tried to compile it..oh...

creating NTFS partitions in ubuntu karmic

Posted 02-12-2010 at 10:13 PM by jkzfixme

Recently I have had to give up one of my thumb drives as a keychain warrior. Being as the whole point is file portability I had to format it in the bastardization that is NTFS. So for giggles I checked out the Disk Utility program rather than go command line warrior like I usually would. I found it interesting that the ntfs option was there as it immediately kicked up an error.

In this blogpost, I shared two scripts: one was to dynamically configure PostgreSQL to the specs of the machine it's running on (based on three different "usage patterns": web-based backend, online transaction processing, and data warehousing/business intelligence), and the other script was a very basic startup/init script for PostgreSQL. In the init script I put a few new lines (new to me, at least), so I figured I'd explain those.

First off, the lines in question:...

my mood

Posted 02-11-2010 at 05:34 AM by backtolinux

sometimes ago, i read an ingeneer, so loving linux system like, as i can read from him.
He complained about the fact linux is not ready for desktop.
And, reading the title, i was offusced by it, but reading more carrefully, I fall in the same conclusion : linux is not ready for desktop, like we see for PC released with windows.
First things the games. I know, there much game that we can play under our favorite OS, but see carrefully the market : all is designed for windows....

1 day downtime

Posted 02-11-2010 at 04:07 AM by Web31337 (In The Middle Of Nowhere [edK's blog])

Just got online after 1-day downtime.
It's all because of me.
About a week ago my router(PI 200mhz PC) started making a noise, I got it open to see what's causing it. It was old 4x4 fan. I "fixed" it(in fact stroke it several times) and forgot about it. I was wrong. I needed to buy a new fan once it happened.
Yesterday it started making a noise again and I reacted slowly. While I was listening to music I didn't hear that, so, after some time it just hanged. Because...
