So after a fresh install of ubuntu studio I was rocking and rolling. I decided that since I had no luck with packages I would compile myself and it worked great.

First thing you need to do is install all the pre-requisite goodies

sudo apt-get install build-essential liblircclient-dev libasound2-dev libdts-dev libdvdnav-dev libxv-dev libxxf86vm-dev transcode libmp3lame-dev subversion qt4-dev-tools libqt4-dev libsamplerate0 libxvidcore4 liba52-0.7.4-dev libfame-dev

Ok, so over the last weekend, I was doing my regular updates - a habit I picked up when I was using sidux, but it made sense to try and update regularly.

Anyway, I reload the Kubuntu 8.04 sources and it tells me that there's a dist-upgrade available i.e. to 8.10 (whatever they've called it).

Ok thinks me, I might as well, so I fire it up........

It gets all the way through and then says I have to reboot the system - well it had installed a newer kernel...
