Arch Linux Update

Well I had a beautifully crafted and well edited blog entry about my experience getting Arch going, but someone ran over a utility pole just as I was hitting "Post Now" so that's my excuse and you can't prove otherwise!

I have actually installed Arch successfully twice at this point, although I had already formatted the first install due to kernel panics at boot, before I bothered to read about Arch's method of initramfs. I was fairly sure it was an initrd issue, but...

I read an article today entitled "Why do we (Love to) hate Microsoft." An interesting piece but the comments are as, if not more, telling. I, like many others spent many years not knowing any better. My Microsoft user days go back to MSX home computers. At the time, it seemed to me that the philosophy of 'one system to rule them all' was a good one in the interests of interoperability. How to cleanly delete Linux partitions and install XP and multi Linux OS's on them.

Hello,
Thanks for your posts. It helped me in getting the solution I wanted. Here is what I finally did...

Deleting the partitions via XP or the 98 bootable CD was not clean and these programs could not cleanly delete the Linux partitions. THe linux partitions have to be deleted via the Linux programs itself.

Procedure:
I used the fedora disk and went into rescue mode. I used the skip option which prevented it from mounting any filesystems and went to...

My sister-in-law and her children are moving in this weekend for an indeterminate amount of time.. There's nothing wrong with that per se, but I can see already that I'm going to need a diversion. Arch Linux looks like just the thing! I'm generally a Slackware fan-boy, but as I've said before, Slackware's stability (even in -current) is sometimes a drawback when I just NEED to fiddle!
