Using serial port with opengl

Hi all,
I use glut library and read from serial port in my program.
when I read a special frame from serial port, I redisplay the window with glutPostRedisplay().But it doesn't work and glutPostRedisplay didn't has any effect on my window.
note: I use thread for reading serial port.

Why I came to use Ubuntu

I started using Linux back in the late 1990s. Back then it was dialup on Windows 95, and I was getting fed up with Windows 95 and its constant crashing and other problems, so I read about Linux somewhere, and downloaded Red Hat Linux, and installed that.

However, there were a number of problems with that, including no support for my Creative soundcard nor the modem, and it did not automount the hard drive partitions other than root, and I did not know how to fix that. So I gave up...

my history with Linux--all too short!

A few years ago I heard about Linux while learning Windows admin by the seat of my pants and the help of some patient friends. I first joined our local computer users group, Olympia Microcomputer Users Group (OMUG), and a couple of years ago began attending OMUG's GNU/Linux special interest group. It seemed to me that Linux is the future, and I hoped "someday" to exchange some or all of our Windows machines for Linux ones.
