Decided to remove beagle from both computers last night. Sadly beagle just doesn't seem ready for the big time yet. I do hope they get the bugs worked out as it seemed like a marvolus idea. On my machine the poor beagled kept hanging while trying to index my evolution mail. not always at the same mail folder either strangely enough. Then it proceed to consume all available memory and about 80% of swap memory when I tried to do a simple search. Needless to say this came close to hanging Linux (was...
Well... Yesterday I upgraded my wife's computer to Dapper (since it is so stable and all) and after some minor fussing about with the flash plugin (seems it and the adblock extension don't get along anymore) she was up and running. She is using an old 850mhz AMD Duron but the speed improvments were still quite evident.. possibly even moreso then on my computer (which is by no means a screamer).
Today while checking things out got both good and bad news the remote control now works...
I've decided that since LQ is generous enough to offer this space and since I presently have some time to devote to such endevours That I would write a Blog about Life in Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake).
A quick bit of background first.
I have been using Linux for many years and Ubuntu since 5.04
The upgrade path I took to dapper was editing /etc/apt/sources.list
and then apt-get dist-upgrading (in init 1).
