When Do these Guys sleep??

Posted 05-12-2006 at 05:09 PM by Freemor

Well, the Updates have just been flying in. Far too many to enumerate here, Surfice it to say that the Ubuntu Developers are Very hard at wok on Dapper. Many minor annoyances and glitches have disappeared with the updates. (For one I can now serial hot sync my palm at the full 115200 baud rate). This Mornings updates introduced new (and IMHO) much improved startup/shutdown splash graphics. (Nice touch guys).

I must say I'm Glad that the Ubuntu team decided to miss the planned release date in favour of more time to polish the product. From what I have seen it was definitely the correct decision. At this point about my only complaint would be that things are running so well it's actually a little boring for a techie like me.. (Not to worry I have enough friends still in windows to keep me occupied to the point of hysteria (How do they manage to live like that??)).

I also must compliment the People working on icons and such some of the new graphics/icons have added both clarity and just a really nice feel to Dapper. A larger variaty of system sounds might be nice, but I shant complain too much because given the nature of FOSS the correct thing to do about such a grumblie would be to brew many pots of coffee, stretch a few time to warm up, and then get up off my glutes and contribute (Hmmm.. where did I put that midi keyboard and mic).

I wish there was more exciting things to comment on .. but that's the problems with a really stable system, they are just not that exciting.. (which is a good thing really you want your games to be exciting not your O/S)

Happy Hacking all
