Hey! cool it down! The forums are nicely organized, and there's a programming forum! Post you inquiry as another thread and please try to stick to the topic of any given thread... That was the sense of the other reply.

Enlightenment is not a DE per se, but rather a Window Manager, so the option is there. Pretty much any WM can be used as a DE, but is not quite a DE, like KDE, GNOME or XFCE.

My favorite desktop environment is GNOME right now. But GNOME needs improvement, and KDE mostly has everything down. I like GNOME's OS X-like interface better though. KDE is more geared towards former Windows users, Konqueror's UI reminds me a lot of IE's, for instance.

Right now I prefer KDE, unfortunately I am a former Windows-user. However I really want to check out Enlightenment but I didn't want to DLoad the Beta or an unstable version of DR17 and I don't know yet that I'm willing to base my judgement on Enlightenment on DR16. My only issue with KDE is that without index files it's near impossible to apply any customizations such as Splash Screens, Icon Packs, Window Skins, and so on. If someone wants to help me out on that, I would greatly appreciate the E-Mail, just state in the subject line that you're responding to my post in LinuxQuestions.org .
