Final Solution!

I was asked to send this info for those who were helping me earlier: For those using the Intel ¡915 integrated graphics driver not supported by the newer linux kernels in 16.14, this is the fix: install the older kernel that works (linux-image-4.2.0-040200-generic_4.2.0-040200.201510260713_amd64.deb) (and headers), then mark it as locked in synaptic, then reboot, and it works. One can now get native resolution 1920x1080 working and thereby use 16.04.
