Problem mounting network share
I had Kubuntu 5.10 on a Dell D600 and it took over two minutes for it to mount a directory that was located on a FC5 server. I also had a SuSE 10 workstation that mounted it just fine. Has anyone else had this issue? I am interested in reinstalling Kubuntu but would certainly like to avoid this issue again. Thanks.

Mount the what directory? Samba? nfs?
If nfs, try adding the IP address of the client to the servers 'hosts' file

I am trying to mount a NFS directory on a server with FC5 on it. I have added the computer's IP address to my /etc/hosts file and I have also tried to mount the directory using both the IP address and the computer name.
This issue only comes up with Kubuntu, both 5.10 and 6.x. My SuSE boxes mount just fine. I also have Kubuntu on two laptops and have the same issue on both so it is not the box itself.
Thanks.

Someone posted the fix for this and I can't find it anylonger. It consisted of using apt-get to install some package. I installed it and it worked great and now I cannot find the post. Anyone have an idea of what that package would be?

OK, I found it. It was in ubuntuforums.org.
apt-get install portmap
That is what fixed the problem for me.
