Files using Asian characters can't be read

Hi all!

I've finally got a Linux distribution to install in my crappy Dell. The chosen one this time was Xubuntu 7.04. So far, very few things are working as I wish it to, even following the Ubuntu guide.

One problem is ratter interesting. Before formating my PC, I've copied all my songs to another Windows machine. It so happens that some of those files are in Korean. The funny thing is that I can't read those files. At all. For example, I have a folder called "Koyote", and inside that folder, all file names are in Korean. I can't "cd" into that folder through the terminal or access them with Thunar. On the console, it will just "hang", while under Thunar, it will stop a few second and bring me back to the previous folder.

Now, I've a lot of packages for the Korean language support, including fonts and help files. I can even type in Korean through scim, which is something that usually takes me a long while to get to work. Browsing Korean sites is no problem at all.

I can list all packages I have installed if necessary. Although, I most likely am only missing one small thing.

To sum up: I can browser my files on a Windows machine, where the files are named using Korean characters. This is Xubuntu 7.04. My keyboard layout is Swedish. Typing in Korean works, browsing Korean sites works. Just files are bugging me. I have some Korean songs in my mp3 player that I could check out, but the problem seems to be somewhere else. Maybe samba? I am connecting to my Windows machine share with:

sudo mount.cifs //sigma/shared /mnt/sigma/ -o username=username

I have full rights to read and write in that mount.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: I've just sent a mp3 song to my e-mail account from the Windows machine to Linux. Once the file is downloaded, the characters are correctly displayed and the song plays fine. So I think it is a samba issue. For now, I will set up a FTP server on the Windows machine and transfer the files through FTP. Hopefully it will work...

UPDATE2: Just installed FileZilla server on Windows 2K box and tried to transfer one Album. It worked perfectly in my Xubuntu now. Pretty neat indeed. And if anything, it seemed to transfer the files much faster.
