Question expanding apt

Hello all,

ive just installed Ubuntu (5.04) on an older computer of mine, and i absolutely love it so far!!!

i am having one BIG problem however.

apt get (im using the synaptic GUI) is only searching for packages from the CD. What would be a good repository to get all sorts of general packages from??

I'm lifting this whole-cloth from the Unofficial Unbuntu 5.04 Starter Guide:

edit /etc/apt/sources.list:

Code:
sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.backup; sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Add these lines:

Code:
## Uncomment the following two lines to fetch updated software from the network
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary main restricted

## Uncomment the following two lines to fetch major bug fix updates produced
## after the final release of the distribution.
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary-updates main restricted
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary-updates main restricted

## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'universe'
## repository.
