Reason: Moved to Ubuntu
I know it sounds really obvious, but have you turned the volume up? If you go into sound setting there is more than one volume control, turn them all the way up.
You don't say which Ubuntu you are using.
I had a sound card on a Dell desktop when I installed Ubuntu Jaunty that it didn't recognize. I don't remember the exact steps, and I will try to find them, but it involved going to the Creative site, downloading the drivers, then using Linux commands to install and recognize the card.
After posting my problem, I realized I had posted it to the wrong thread because it isn't really a "sound card" problem as my audio is built into the motherboard.
Hi 9nine9 , MilkRose callumacrae, I am using ubuntu 9.04 and I have a creative labs sound blaster. I am a complete novice at ubuntu but am learning and so should not have started thread. Thanks for your interest, I will probably thread again when I know more. Bye, petergeeter .
