Anyone familair w/ Lirc Please help me here...

I am a newbie and if I posted in wrong area I apologize. I have only been using linux Mint for about 1 month. Anyway, I managed to poke around after googling everywhere and get lirc running w/ my system. I don't really see any issues with it and I am only using it for XMMS manipulation. My question is about my configuration. I manually found all the Conf files except my Lircmd.conf. To be frank I do not have one configured. I am not sure I understand what this is for and whether I need it or not. Will someone PLEASE tell me if I need this file configured for any reason and what it is really for? I really would appreciate th info TIA.
