The one thing I would like Ubuntu to do even more so than switch to a rolling release model is ditch APT for something more bleeding-edge. In particular, a
Portage-like package manager that automatically pulls the source to build from the projects' Git repositories (as well as automatically satisfy dependencies). This will help to ensure that the software is the most up-to-date it possibly can be.
I in particular would like to see Ubuntu drop APT for
JHBuild and have its own moduleset (and maybe a system-wide .jhbuildrc that gives JHBuild a prefix of the root directory) or possibly a frontend to JHBuild that can work across multiple modulesets (like
repo is for Git repositories).
