Upgrade to SuSe 9.2 remotely

Hey.

This is kind of a funny question. I am running suse 9.0 on a machine at home, and I want to upgrade to 9.2. Unfortunatly I am not going to be at home for about a month and I want to make the upgrade now.

Can I update remotely. I can log onto the machine using SSH, can it be upgraded fully from SSH?

I did it once with mandrake using the urpmi program, stuck in the newer CD and said update automatically. It upgrade me to the next version, and I never had to reboot.

If anyone knows how this can be done.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

David

You should be able to do it if you have enabled the rmote access, then how to go about it will also depend if you have enabled the graphical mode or not...
You will be able to login remotely as root, and then just use YAST to do the upgrade...
If you add the 9.2 source onto Yast and then stop all of your 9.0 sources you just need to start the system update module from yast and that should do it without having to reboot.

Yup, I did this last week, going from 9.1 to 9.2 using the suse apt server.

It's a bit nerve wracking to install the kernel, and reboot, but it worked ok for me.
