Suse have problems w/ sata hd?

Does openSuse traditionally have a problem recognizing a sata hd to read/write? Is this fixable? This has been the only problem I've had with openSuse. Any help would be SOOO appreciated, cuz I have tried a bunch of distros and this is the one I like best. However, I can't use it if I can't access my sata.

It could be that your sata is not known to the kernel and therefore not recognized because the motherboard chipset is too new. It sounds as if your root partition is on an ata drive and you're trying to access a sata. But you don't really provide much information on your configuration.

It would help if you provided version of suse, mb chipset and drive info. I seem to recall that maxtor sata's were problematic.

Is the sata formatted and mounted? Can root read write the drive? If so what are the permissions?
