I've been running 9.2 PRO 32bit on my AMD64 3200+ for quite a while now with great sucess I've finally figured out how to get the 64 bit version on here and everything seems great. However, I'm not sure how to do the work around for all the video/audio codecs for the 64bit suse ......
In the 32 bit version it was as simple as grabbing the newest version of w32codec, libxine, xine-ui, and kaffeine .... but nobody seems to have 64 bit rpms anywhere (Tried rpm-pbone, etc...)
I'd preffer to avoid building the sources if possible, since it gets yast all confused ... and i'm not totally sure how to do it properly.
SuSE maintains an ftp server that holds SuSE available free up until 9.1 . Now I know that you are in 64 bit mode running 9.2, but SuSE does have a 9.2 folder on their ftp. I'm sure that YOU is using it. On the other hand, it may also hold updated software. You could try browsing it, or adding one of the mirrors to your installation source (in YaST). If I remember right, you will need to look in the x86_64 directory.
Alright, I think i've got things going pretty good ..... after many attempts to figure out which order to install the packages in everything wen't in ok ... but, when I run kaffeine It just sits there loading then closes (I never even see the window come up) ... I don't think I missed any packages that would be neccessary ....
Here's what I installed:
kaffeine-0.5-1rc2.x86_64.rpm
libdvdcss2-1.2.8-3.x86_64.rpm
libfame-0.9.1-5.x86_64.rpm
libstk-0.2cvs20041023-1.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-aa-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-dvb-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-dxr3-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-gnome-vfs-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-sdl-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
libxine1-stk-1_rc7-0.x86_64.rpm
rpmkey-suser-jmorris-0.1-1.noarch.rpm
speex-1.1.6-2.x86_64.rpm
Just for kicks I tried to load kaffeine from the command prompt and it did this ...
Code:
black:/opt/kde3/bin # ./kaffeine
Main: XInitThreads()
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kded: cannot connect to X server :0.0
kded: ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
kdeinit: Might not terminate at end of session.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kaffeine: cannot connect to X server :0.0
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
ERROR: Communication problem with kaffeine, it prbably crashed.
This all seems to make sense, except for the part where kded crahses... but i dunno.
I had the same problem, but managed to find someone with a 64 bit xine distro, and directions on how to install it. It worked just fine, but problems like this led me to go to the 32 bit system. It is slower, but more is available.
So on the surface everything seems to be ok. I have the kernel sources installed (I basically installed everything off the DVD), and to clarify, I only get those mentioned errors if I try to run kaffeine from the command line (in X of course..). If I just click it's icon in the menu I get the little bouncing coffee bean for about 20 seconds then it dissapears w/o errors ... a 'ps aux|grep kaffeine' or just 'kaff' shows no processes are left running in infinite loops. ... from what I can see it seems to be having trouble loading all of itself and then craps out, or it can't make its window (just a stab in the dark) ....
on second thought, you don't have to start kaffine. just put in a dvd and it should popup & all you have to do is click play -if it is installed correctly.

Thanks for all your help, I'll give some of those a try ... and yeah, kaffiene doesn't seem to work no matter what I do (insert cd, use an "open with.." .. etc).
This just in ... I installed the xine-ui plugin and it worked!!! :-D .. no kaffeine however ... oh well c'est la vie.
---------- edit -----------
Installing an older version of kaffeine worked for me ... check it out here http://darkstar.ist.utl.pt/pub/suse/....2/rpm/x86_64/
(PS: I found this by googling 'kaffeine x86_64 suse').
