I know this subject might be tiresome for many of you, but i have searched the threads and the www and cannot come up with a explanation/solution for following problem:
I get absolutely no sound in any situation on my computer except while playing CDs.
DVD sound is null as are test sounds in YAST, alsaconf, and other volume programs.
My soundcard is Intel 8x0 and the modules appear to be installed and active.
Any ideas, suggestions, etc. would be much appreciated.
Well, im not entirely sure about configuring sound on SUSE, but in slackware you need to run "alsamixer" and unmute everything and put it up to 100% (Except maybee for PCM which I stick at about 74 because anything above it sounds terrible).
To raise the volume of each thing just press the up key, and to unmute it press < and > to unmute the left and right channel respectively.
Once you've done that run "alsactl store".
You've probably already checked the kernel, but if not, make sure your sound card has been compiled into it or as a module.
Hopefully this may help. Best of luck.
1. goto terminal, su to root
2. run alsaconf
3. select your card, and reset everything, let it do its work
4. in terminal, run alsamixer
5. increase necessary volumes
thanks for the suggestion, but have tried that several times to no avail and even though the configuration is successful and the volumes are up, i get no sound.
Last time I saw a thread like this it was because the speakers weren't plugged into the electricity (wall AC). They were powered. Please check all the simple stuff.
