Exclamation xmms playing from cds without sound!!

hi..
I've created a new user for myself, 'coz I mess it up with my original one, and since then,
when I play a cd using xmms, I can see the cd's play-list, the time-line and time-counter moving, but with no sound at all...
this is strange 'cause:
1) If I use xmms to play a file stored within the hard-drive, it sound is ok.
2)the other apps (gxine, xine) can play from cd without any problem.

any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Did you connect your cd rom to your sound card with that little cable thingy?
Often that is used to play the cd's directly, and cd playback will not work if that wire is missing.

And if you're able to play files on the hard drive with no problem, why not just rip the tracks off the cd and make some new mp3s? grip will do this job nicely.

thanks for answer, geeman
about the tiny cable: my hardware don't need it, since I can play cds with other apps, and I use to play such cds with xmms before..
..and the ripping stuff, well.. shure thing it can be done --in fact I already did it, but the point is I wanna use xmms to play cds from the cd-driver. (I use to do so with xactly the same hard I'm using right now)

Start xmms, ctrl-p to open the preferences window. In the Audio I/O Plugins tab, select CD Audio Player and hit Configure. Change the play mode from Analog to Digital Audio Extraction.
