Question xmms playing cds but no sound

I am not familiar with playing mp3 and obviously with xmms. In my SuSe 9.1 box, I have found that xmms is playing my mp3 cds and the frequency meter is also showing the dancing LEDs but I am not able to hear anything. I used another mp3 palyer (AlsaPlayer) but the same.........no sound but it is playing my cds. In both the case, progress slider is also moving correctly.
I can able to hear Audio Cds using Audio CD Player. Master Volume control is fixed at 100.

What is the problem?

Regards
Anindya

What do you have in the preferences concerning the audio I/O plugins on the input plugins? Is the mpeg layer1/2/3 player installed, enabled and configured correctly?

Also, check and see if xmms will play anything at all. If not, select and configure the proper output for your system.

Audio I/O Plugins --> Input Plugin
MPEG Layer 1/2/3/ Player 1.2.10 [libmpg123.so] ............................is installed and it is enabled.

How to check that? In the Audio I/O Plugins --> Output Plugin I have observed that Automatic detection [libart.so] is selected.

What to do to hear MP3 songs? I am waiting for your answer.

Personally, I am using Esound Output Plugin 1.2.10.

Have you tried each alternative you have installed yet? Have you attempted installing other plugins and tried them?

You could also run xmms from an x terminal and post the error messages generated. Error messages help a lot in diagnosing problems (and show in the x terminal window) where most errors can (and probably will) be hidden when running strictly from the GUI.
