NNTP and sound : two questions

Dear all,

I have two questions regarding SuSE 10.1 and didn't want to create two posts...

1st) Since upgrading from SuSE9.3 to SuSE 10.1, my NNTP (news server) throughput dropped tenfold (from 60 kB/s per thread to 5 kB/s per thread)... Since when I run a newsreader in windoze the throughput doesn't drop, I must conclude that it is not a ISP or router problem (besides, with SuSE9.3 it worked like a marvel).

This problem reminds me of the time I've installed AVAST antivirus in windoze, and it tried to scan every incoming packet, so performance was around 5kB/S per thread... I've already checked that the port in wide open in the SuSE firewall... Any ideas about what could be causing this?

2nd) Is it possible, under Linux, to get kaffeine (well, it is the xine engine) to use all six speakers of a Surround 5.1 system while playing MP3s? I've tried configuring xine, telling it that it is a Surround 5.1 system, but I keep getting only stereo output...

Thanks for any help you can give me!
