First, install and open a mixer. Kmix works for me, and make sure you have the volume turned up, not muted. Next, make sure you have the correct master channel selected. Try them all until you have sound. There are only a few of them, so it won't take long. If none of that works, try downloading the latest alsa drivers, and alsa-util and alsa-lib, compile them your.self, reboot, and pray.
If that doesn't work, there might be one other file to edit, I'll did up the howto that worked for me.
