Question 9.2 Net Install from SMB Share Question

As you can tell, I am newbie. However, I do have a Samba server (Debian Woody 3.0) that is currently serving files to a number of Windows Machines. I need to install SuSe 9.2 professional to several PC's. I downloaded the entire installation tree so as to limit the bandwidth that would be needed for more than one machine. I currently have the SuSe 9.2 Pro installation tree available via a Samba share.

During the net inst process, I noted that it was possible for it to mount from an smb share. I tried this but kept getting the error below.

Cannot find the image.

Check the directory specification.

Other information:

Path on Server:
/somedirectory/distributions/SuSe/pub/suse/i386/9.2/

Samba Share:
Shared Name: pub
Share path: /somedirectory/distributions/SuSe/pub/suse/i386/9.2/

FTP & NFS are not configured on the file server and as such are not available. I would really prefer to simply install from an smb share since that is what has already been configured. These same shares can be accessed from a SuSe 9.1 Personal box that I set up some time ago. This is one of the boxes that I will be installing 9.2 Pro on.

If I can provide any additional information, please let me know. Thank in advance for any assistance. It is greatly appreciated.

Maybe it the same for samba as for FTP installations: try to omit the first (and last) slash in the directory path:

Code:
Share path: somedirectory/distributions/SuSe/pub/suse/i386/9.2

I second that. The update/install programmes only want raw info, it adds in syntax on its own. When it asks for the server address, instead of ftp://ftp.server.com/, enter ftp.server.com, and when it asks for the directory or path, instead of /dir/ect/or/y/, put in dir/ect/or/y , it'll finish the rest.

Are you booting from the installation mini-ISO? I highly reccomend it - it makes net installs very easy, and i'm reasonably certain it supports samba, though i've only used FTP and HTTP.

Let us know if you have any luck, or run into any more probs.
