2.6.18 kernel and automounter

Platform

Distro: SuSE 10.1
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi-AP
Chipset:
- P965 / ICH8
- JMicron JMB363
- Marvell PC I Express LAN controller (88E8056)
- Marvell PCI LAN controller (88E8001)

Issue

Need to upgrade to 2.6.18 kernel for chipset support. However, whether upgrading to the OpenSuSE 2.6.18 kernel ( http://software.opensuse.org/downloa..._Factory/i586/ ) or from the vanilla kernel at kernel.org, I can get everything to work; that is, everything except the optical drives and the automounter. (edit: As I recall, the dvd and cd-rom device files were not present under 2.6.18)

Where do I start looking for the automounter in 10.1, and has anyone successfully upgraded to the 2.6.18 kernel?

using vanilla (patched for performance) 2.6.18
no problems
however there is a bug (since 2.6.18-rcX) and you may be one of unlucky

I think that patch is available or try 2.6.19-rc3
