`shutdown -h now` won't powerdown

Hi all,

I have Suse 9.1 Pro on two boxes a PIII 600 and an Athlon 2000.
My problem lies in power down from a shutdown -h command.

The PIII works fine however the athlon hangs at the line:
"The system will be halted immediatly"

I don't know if this is related but two lines above the last is this:
"ERROR: The module dm_mod is in use"

It appears that the shutdown process has completed but the last action is not working.

FYI: I have had RedHat 9 running on the athlon and powerdown worked fine then.

Any ideas?

Actually shutdown did not complete because of the failure to terminate dm_mod. I think that dm_mod has something to do with hot plug. Take a look at your boot messages. If you don't need dm_mod it may fail to initialize at boot which then makes it unable to terminate at shutdown. If that is the case you can solve two problems by removing dm_mod from the boot sequence.
