How to Actually powerdown??

Hi you all
As you might have experienced, when you type in halt in the console the computer starts to power down, I'm not too sure if it only does to laptops, but how to do actually powerdown the computer without pressing the power button off?? I mean like the computer just sits there with the text saying Powerdown, and it does nothing!! What can I do to make it powerdown it self??
thanks
chris

If you are so lazy to turn it off, then why are you turning it on. Just joking. I don't think that there is some kind of thing like that. Cheers

remove the leading '# ' in the line ' /sbin/modprobe apm ' in file /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
and for this session type :#modprobe apm

Editing /etc/rc.modules? That turns on APM support. (APM Definition).
Basically, it allows Linux to ask the BIOS to cut power. ACPI has superceeded (sp?) APM.
