Here are all five outputs. But I am certainly willing to open the box and change the cables if that is the cause of the problem.

1) OUTPUT OF "ifconfig -a":

Given your present setup, it seems the easiest thing to do is to reach around to the back of your computer and move the ethernet cable from the Intel NIC to the 3Com NIC. Then reboot ... if Slackware and Windows don't both detect it and work, we can go from there. I believe that they will.

I think actually blacklisting the modules is much easier, but I don't enjoy movement all that much. Time to go break something.

Bruce:

Since I see no 2nd connection at the back of the computer which seems to fit the cable from my router (I have no idea why the computer was configured with TWO network cards to begin with, and am not particularly adept at working inside the box), the easier solution for me is probably to stick with the Intel card that is already working with 3 other OS's (Windows, Ubuntu, Fedora) and make the appropriate changes in the Slackware configuration files. I eagerly await your instructions, and appreciate the time you are taking with this problem.

Then do what symatic said in post #11. If it doesn't work, post back the output asked for in post #13 plus the output of "/sbin/lspci | grep -i ethernet".

In your other thread you had posted:
Code:
1) lspci | grep -i ethernet replied with

06:02.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] (rev 24)
06:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 01)

Okay, things are looking up.

You have modules loaded for the second NIC [06:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562ET/EZ/GT/GZ - PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 01)]:
Code:
e100 35464 0
mii 8576 1 e100
and modules blacklisted for the first NIC [06:02.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905B 100BaseTX [Cyclone] (rev 24)]
Code:
blacklist 3c59x
You might not know where it is, but your computer sees 2 NICs (network interface card).

When your kernel sees those 2 NICs, it lists eth0 first -- the 3 Com, and eth1 second -- the Intel. So you need to change some lines in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf. This is what you have now:
Code:
IPADDR[0]=""
NETMASK[0]=""
USE_DHCP[0]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[0]=""
IPADDR[1]=""
NETMASK[1]=""
USE_DHCP[1]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[1]=""
IPADDR[2]=""
NETMASK[2]=""
USE_DHCP[2]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[2]=""
IPADDR[3]=""
NETMASK[3]=""
USE_DHCP[3]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[3]=""
GATEWAY=""
DEBUG_ETH_UP="no"
Please change those lines to these settings:
Code:
IPADDR[0]=""
NETMASK[0]=""
USE_DHCP[0]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[0]=""
IPADDR[1]=""
NETMASK[1]=""
USE_DHCP[1]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[1]=""
IPADDR[2]=""
NETMASK[2]=""
USE_DHCP[2]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[2]=""
IPADDR[3]=""
NETMASK[3]=""
USE_DHCP[3]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[3]=""
GATEWAY=""
DEBUG_ETH_UP="yes"
The most important change is USE_DHCP[1]="no" to USE_DHCP[1]="yes", since your computer sees the Intel NIC as eth1.

After you make that change, issue "/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart" and see if you have an internet connection.

You will also need proper nameservers listed in /etc/resolv.conf ... you should get those from your ISP. You can also find them in your router's interface under DNS server(s), or also in Windows.

You do not have to restart Slackware, but you might want to just to make sure everything is set and will work on subsequent reboots.

Congrads...It gets easier! I still have questions all the time. I should have told you to add dhcp to eth1, but I was hoping it was assign it to the first position(eth0). I forget things are configured at a hardware level first. About the placement of your card. I would look either near your usb ports in the rear, sometimes it is hard to notice and also around your video card. I would be annoyed if I couldn't find that other port...heh

Be careful Slack is addictive!
