Active ethernet card, no connection

I am new to Linux, and up to my ears in configuration problems. Right now I am trying to get online via my cable isp provider. My ethernet device, called eth0 is "active" and the connected sign is visible when I open mozilla (i run RedHat 9). But no web page nor my pop connection is found.

Try the following 2 commands:
ping www.linuxquestions.org
ping 64.179.4.146

If you get a reply from the IP address but not the DNS name then you probably need to ad your ISPs DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf
