conexant softmodem and slackware 12.1

Hello:

This is a problem involving slackware 12.1 (not 12.0). If you do not have 12.1, there is no need for you to waste any of your time reading this post.

OK, still reading? Then you have slackware 12.1. Cool.

Are you using a Conexant HCF/HSF "softmodem" (dialup modem, a card inside the machine, essentially a winmodem)?

If you are not, well, you're a lucky person. Life is good for you. You can skip to the next thread: no further need to read this one.

Still reading? Ok, then you have the modem and you are running slackware 12.1. Have you got it working? Can you go online?

If the answer is yes, then EXCELLENT!

so ... to the meat of this post ....

How did you do it? Can you let me know? Thanks in advance.

p.s. - I found several answers on google. Alas, they were the wrong answers: they didn't fix the problem for me.

p.p.s. - the driver worked for me with slackware 12.0.

Hi,

Your litmus is not going to get you much help here.
You did do a LQ or Google search for the problem?

BTW, I don't use your modem type.

I would help but too many conditions on your part. I'm sure the HCL, LQ search or even a simple google will get you somewhere.

Solution: install hsfmodem-7.60.00.18oem.tar.gz instead of hsfmodem_7.60.00.06oem_i386.deb

It compiled fine. Got the "... taints kernel" message on reboot which confirmed that the software is in and loading. Yay!

In other words, I had an old version. D'oh!
