VGA fonts

Attempted to install vga fonts I downloaded from
Stumpy's http://home.earthlink.net/~us5zahns/enl/ansifont.html
and attempted 'mkfontdir'.

Unfortunately I got

mkfontdir: unable to process font ./vga.pcf.gz, skipping
mkfontdir: unable to process font ./sabvga.pcf.gz, skipping
mkfontdir: unable to process font ./vga11x19.pcf.gz, skipping

I need the fonts to run DOSemu.

Don't know much about fonts, their installation and use
so I am at a loss.

Little help please!

Hi raypen

I went to the site and downloaded the fonts, copied them to /var/X11R6/lib/fonts/misc, gzipped them, and ran "mkfontdir" with no problems. I did an "xset fp rehash" and have actually used the fonts, so they do work. I'm using a slack-current from around just before rc1, which means I'm not using XFree86-4.3.0, so perhaps someone running 9.0 release could also try this.

It's always the little, seemingly innocuous stuff
that really grabs me by the ass sometimes.

I had downloaded the fonts individually, all with
pcf.gz attached. Since all of the other fonts in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc had the appendage
.pcf.gz, I thought all I had to do was copy the
downloaded files and run 'mkfontdir'. That's even
what the website said.

I then downloaded the full font package and when
gunzipped all the font packages had lost the .gz.
Everything worked fine from there.

Whoever said 'don't sweat the small stuff' never
ran a computer.
