the trouble is the latest version isnt available in near by markets; they are windows OS dominent!!
Slackware 10.1 shouldnt have any pproblems installing as it isnt that old kind of version.
any other advice to follow apart from burning cds/lastest iso (i agree with these options and will try but wanna solve the problem with existing resources; if possible)????
i'll support Pat just as soon as I manage to find my way back to a steady job in the I.T. sector like I had offered to me in Calgary.
i have gone through the article. whatever it requires i have it except already installed slackware. i am unable to partition the hard disk as it doesnt allow to write because it is read only.
when i installed fedora core7, it did recognise my hard drives and allowed me to formate it. so there shouldnt be any thing wrong with my hard drvies.
why am i unable to partition the drive???? it should not be that hard to install the Slackware????
i boot with "bare.i nousb" option.
when i use fdisk /dev/hda the output come is like this;
"you will not be able to write the partition table. Device contains neither a valikd DOS patioon table, nor SUN, SGI or OSF disklable.
building a new dos dislable will stay in memory.
Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partion table 4 will be corrected by w(rite)"

Hi,
If you read the article, you need a installed GNU/Linux. Does not require Slackware. If you use the Slackware 10.1 to start then you should be able to use the article to install the Slackware 12.0 via the loop device as stated within the article.
Sure, the long way is being done.
But you say that a burner was not available to you to create the cd(s) for Slackware 12.
As for the disk problem. I would boot the Slackware 10.1 cd that you now have with the default kernel. Then do a 'lspci -vv' to identify the disk controller. You can use this information to help decide which kernel for the Slackware 10.1 to use to install the 10.1 for your disk type. For Slackware 10.1 kernel 2.4 you have a lot of kernels that you can choose to use. This will depend on the hardware setup you have.

suppose i have fedora core7 installed on one of my hard drives. would it work?????
i have tried lspci -vv as root@slackware# but it doesnt work???
burn that and boot up your system on your cdrom. when inside, look under System Tools->gparted! once there, you'll get a full diagnostic as to what's going on with your hardware as well as setup your partitions as you want and do it graphically
i have downloaded the vectorlinux and have burnt it on dvd. it does boot but doesnt go any further than first welcome screen???
