Slackware 10 doesn't see hdb1 in cfdisk

I'm trying to install Slackware 10. When the install cd boots
it lists hdb1 as one of the hard drives in my system.(I also have win2k on it, on a separate HDD) However when I use cfdisk it doesn't list hdb1 as one of the hard drives. I wish to install slack on hdb1. I've tried disconecting hda1and then install again, but cfdisk says "can't open drive" I can use the drive in windows. Anyone have a clue as to how to solve
this problem?

thanks
Dan

Do you actually have 2 pysical hard drives? If you did there would be hda and hdb. But if you have one drive with a Windows partition and some empty space, you'd have hda1 and hda2 (once you create it).

when you use cfdisk, were you able to, at the prompt, say cfdisk /dev/hdb1?

try using fdisk instead of cfdisk. it's more cryptic but cfdisk has some well known faults.

Thumbs up

I'll try the /dev/hdb1 with cfdisk. If that fails I'll try fdisk.

Thanks for the help

I dont use cfdisk, but shouldn't it be "cfdisk /dev/hdb" hdb1 is a partition on the disk not the disk itself. I use the cryptic fdisk, on which I know it would be "fdisk /dev/hdb", since that is what I grew up on so to speak.
