Unable to install VLC media player

I tried to use sbotools to install VLC media player. It failed with following message that did not find libavutil ; needs to pass --disable-avcodec to ignore this error.

I tried finding libavutil in Slackware, Salix etc repositories but could not find it. From google, I see that it is part of FFmpeg, which was installed by sboinstall. I do not know how to pass --disable-avcodec option through sboinstall command. Thanks for your help.

vlc is especially hard to build because of its many dependencies and options. It's easier to get it from AlienBOB's (aka Eric Hameleers) repository.

I had given the command 'sboinstall -r vlc' (to fetch, build and install vlc and its needed uninstalled dependencies without manual confirmation). So at this stage, I think many dependencies would have got installed. If I now install vlc binary from http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/, do I need to check anything regarding dependencies?
