If I use Swaret to upgrade my Slack 10 to 10.2 what will happen to Gnome, bearing in mind that it is no longer included in the distro?
Will I still have the working version that is already on my system or will it be borked?
Either way can I safely remove it or are there major dependancy issues.
If I can't remove it can I update it and from where?

well it won't get uninstalled.... I don't see why it wouldnt work... 10.2 is very similar to 10.

yes you can uninstall gnome. Though you shouldn't uninstall gtk and some libraries. and stuff like Gaim, if you use it.

Personally i would just upgrade it and leave it be.

if you want a newer version of gnome for slackware then you need to go third party. google:

Free Rock Gnome
Gware
Dropline

Although they alter quite a lot of your system, so that's something to be aware of. i run 10.2 with Free rock and it works well....

also use either slack-pkg or slapt-get. they are preffered to swaret i think...
