Hey all. This is my first posting here, so will try to make it a good one.
I installed Splack onto my Sun Ultra 5 and for some reason when I run startx the monitor goes black and then it goes back to the command prompt and KDE does not start. I have a KDS X-Flat monitor on the onboard Sun display adapter.
Do you get some kind of error message in the console (you can also search for the error in /var/log/)? If you do, try posting it here.
You probably need to configure the X enviroment to suit your system. I don't know if Splack uses Xfree86 or Xorg, so try to configure it xf86config or xorgconfig

I will take a look at this when I get home as I am at work at present. Will run that utility and see what happens.
Splack uses very old software and kernel versions for the Sparc arc. I suggest you use debian's sparc edition, or to actually try out Solaris. I had a similar thread asking a few questions, and i ended up using Solaris 10 on my ultra 60 without regret.
As for your problem, to check the error log, its usually found in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
so view it with one of
pico /var/log/Xorg.0.log
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
vi /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
To modify or fix the settings, the file is usually found in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
or
/etc/X11/xfree86.conf
Depending on whether you're using Xorg or XFree86

I would like to run Solaris on my Ultra 5, but for some reason newfs does not like the 20GB hard drive I upgraded my Ultra 5 to.
