Sound Permission Denied


Hello Everyone,

I had sound yesterday. I turn off my pc. Woke up this morning
turn on my pc and there is no sound. I get this error message

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:996snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore
aplay: main:722: audio open error: Permission denied

Also when i renamed my .asoundrc file today i get sound. Any ideas
why this is happening?

BTW: I'm running slackware current 03-28-2016.

There's been a lot of updates since 03-28-2016. Maybe you should get and apply them.

Hello Cranium,

I'm just trying to wait either for slackware 14.2 or slackware rc-3 because i'm using multilib.

Well, the issue you're reporting could've been fixed in one of the hundreds of updates that have been pushed out since you last updated. It isn't worth trying to track down any bugs there, since they might not exist at all in the present -current. Unless you choose to update to a newer version, it's not likely a fix will be found for you.

Also, have you checked Eric's multilib folder? He's been keeping it up-to-date with the changes from -current. so updating -current while running multilib should be pretty easy.

Yes, Eric does a great job keeping multilib current with current.

PS: Not sure current is the right version if you want to go 2.5 months without any upgrades.
