Sound is choppy in Linux

Hi.

I have a Creative Vibra 128 PCI sound card that maps to ens1371. The thing is, the sound is a bit choppy. I have kernel 2.6.5 and alsa 1.0.4. Iget perfect sound in Windows. Why is it so?

Try to run some sound as root.
If you're using KDE, you can tweak some parameters in the sound configuration.

I've already tried that. But it doesn't work. Actually, by choppy, I mean that the sound quality is a bit off. It's not as good as I get in Windows XP. Anything else?

It sometimes helps to compile the driver into your kernel, not just as a module. My creative audigy sounds horrible when compiled as a module. Also, check your connectors on your soundcard. I had to fiddle around a bit to get the best sound out of my card, maybe that can solve your problems too.

I've tried that but then my sound card isn't detected at all. I HAVE to use alsa 1.0.4. Otherwise my sound doesn't work at all.
