Smearing of Video on UEFI system on text console after booting .

Hello All ,
All hardware except monitor type is in (*) Below . Which is a Dell 2407WFP , capable of 1920x1200x8@60Hz .

I have attempted the NOMODESET & VGA=XXX options at the Kernel CmdLine again to no avail .

The Solution to (**) below shows a script change or addition to a (I beleive ) Grub2 config file that sets the proper modes for the correction needed .

My searches have found nothing I can do from within elilo or the Kernel CMDLine that alleviates this issue .

Does anyone have any insight(s) to share using either elilo based config &/or Kernel CMDLine ?

This is Continuation of ... (*

)

Very simular to Tho I am Not running Grub or Grub2 , But elilo . (**

All following is how things work with OEM kernels provided by most distros. You may need special configuration in Slackware building your own kernel.

From:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/fb/modedb.txt
any of:
video=1920x1200 or
video=1920x1200@60 or
video=1680x1050 or
video=1440x900 or
a number of others combinations on kernel cmdline should work with most 1920x1200 displays.

Nomodeset may help on vttys, but it's intended as a troubleshooting parameter, not what you want for an X session.

vga= gets overridden by kernel modesetting before a shell prompt shows up, unless using nomodset or equivalent KMS killer.

What is your output from 'inxi -SGIay' run in a GUI terminal?

Hello @mrmazda , Thank you for responding . Sorry about the lengthy delay in my responding .

The unit will not have X Running . This will only have standard text based [tp]ty's for terminals .

The "video=" given below did not help at the console level , I am assuming they were for X based configurations .

I have been unable to enter the system since it's installation .

All I can do is reboot into the install dvd & dig around in the logfiles to attempt to see whats (not )happened .

The last items in the logfile buffers are not getting dumped to disk as all I can do is power it off .

The installation doesn't get into a ping'able state at present .
Looking into that at present . The disk(ie: ssd) is still without any major fsck , did that yesterday in hopes , Still not pingable .

Just a report for now . Thank You for the help .

Hello All , Hopefully no one else does this to them selves .

A previous /boot/efi/BOOT directory was in place on the EFI partition , This contained the bootable section of Slackware-14.2 installation with an home built kernel .

I had 'Ass-u-med' that when I installed the slackware-current as of 20200929 kernel 5.4.67 , that I had formatted that partition . And I had not . Leaving me this unhealed scab to pick at .

What I did was just copied the -HUGE- kernel into both of the EFI bootable directories & just went for it .

At first the screen was smeared , tho afterward it did it's usual high resolution reset and I NOW have access to the console with readable terminal access .

Hth , Helps another before getting stuck here , JimL
