and converted them both with rpm2tgz + installed the resulting packages. However HL-2140 does not subsequently appear as cups option. Can anybody guide me a little here?
Slackware has /etc/init.d symlinked to /etc/rc.d/init.d. Before running the Brother scripts, it may help to create a symlink in /etc/rc.d/init.d which points to the Slackware cups start/stop/restart script.
i.e ln -s /etc/rc.d/rc.cups /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups
Also, Brother scripts are written for cshell, so when you run the scripts, switch to a cshell first. i.e Type 'csh' at the bash prompt.
I am trying to get my brother hl-2140 working with slack 12.1
I created the link as stated above and used pkgtool to install both lpr and wrapper
after converting from rpm to tgz.
The printer does not show up on the cups add printer list.
I searched around and found some files under /usr/local/Brother.
Still I could not get a test page to print.
Any ideas?
