Brother HL-2040 and Slackware 11.0 conflict

I have a USB Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer. I have heard that it is supported by brother for linux. This is so, I did find .rpm and .deb files. I tried installing the RPM, and with all RPM's they have dependencies that I cant seem to find, so I used alien to turn the .rpm file to a .tgz. Installed the .tgz, and it didnt output any errors, so I thought it worked! Went into cups to see if i could configure my printer.
Went to http://127.0.0.1:631/ and went to configure my printer. However, there are no Brother listings. Did I completely skip a step? Or do something wrong?

Brothers link for the rpm that i converted is: http://solutions.brother.com/Library...1.2-2.i386.rpm

I also read that you also need to install the cups wrapper, which is located at: http://solutions.brother.com/Library...0.0-1.i386.rpm

I converted both of these to .tgz files, installed, and am still nowhere. Any Ideas? Thanks yet again!

Aren't dependencies files that a program, you know, actually depends on to operate?

I think you'd better try harder to satisfy those dependencies, rather than work around them.

I have this printer. It works well with Linux using the sources you posted. What I found is that you actually have to have BOTH the LPR and CUPS printer drivers installed in order to print. Try installing both and see if that helps.

Alrighty then, I am back to the old RPM's.... I found ghostscript, installed it. These are the dependencies I am faced with:
Code:
error: Failed dependencies:
        ghostscript is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
        /bin/sh is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
        libc.so.6 is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
        libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
        libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
        libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3) is needed by brhl2040lpr-1.1.2-2
Like I said, I installed ghostscript, I have /bin/sh, and I have glibc-2.3.6.... WHY AM I STILL GETTING THESE DEPENDENCIES????? (Reason #1 I moved away from Redhat :P)
