T3slider:
It worked!
I just put the torrent and the iso in a folder and moved it to 12.1.
Opened the torrent with Ktorrent and directed it to download to the folded where the iso was and it checked it and then started seeding.
Thanks !!

Now to start compiling all those packages that I had for 12.0, (about 80 of them). Oh well, I'm learnin'. ... :-)

I'm eye balling the polo shirt. My Slackware ball cap is brown from all the sun so I'll probably get another one of those too...

I ordered the Serious Slackware t-shirt .

I'm trying to seed the first two CD ISOs, but I'm getting errors:

[08:55:29] rejected by tracker - Your client's "key" paramater and the key we have for you in our database do not match.

Any ideas about what to do about this?

Try replacing BitTorrent with Bittornado from extra.

Apologies to fellow seeders:
I started xine to see something and changed my mind. When closing xine, it crashed X and I was back at console
I have things to do on a different computer, so guess my seeding time is cut short. It also appears that my isp must throttle uploads since after 1.1 gig of uploads, I was down to 0.1 to 5K upload speed.
I don't know much about seeding but that looked awful slow to me compared to yesterday.
Hopefully I can resume seeding in a day or two.

I had to abandon seeding late last night/early this morning. It was slow to start with, but then slowed down even more, stopped, and switched between those two states for about an hour before I gave up on it. 12.2 would have been out before it finished.

My upload speed today for seeding is also awful, getting 4-6 kb/sec. I'm enjoying 12.1:-)

I'm still going but capped at 25 KB/s (anything higher than that and surfing the web is a nightmare from the early 90's). If you still wish to seed but you think you're getting throttled, try encrypting the torrent (in KTorrent there's an option in the preferences).

Hi,

I'm holding mine at 20 KB/s. That will help and I don't want to have LAN problems. My wife and Grandkids would beat up on me. I should have left them all in the dark. They question me all the time therefore they are getting good. Shucks!

I'll keep my seed up for awhile since it is running on one of the servers.

I've had current but I now have the cd set & dvd to use. Just a habit. Media is so cheap now days.

I don't see what's wrong with downloading from the mirrors. It takes a lot less time and it's gonna work no matter what. And really, it's not like I burden the mirrors too much, I use them once every release, other than that I don't use them for anything intensive, just looking through patches or things. That's what the mirrors are there for, I think.

And yes, that's another nasty side-effect of torrents, you can't play online games while it's running for sure, and browsing will be severely affected in most cases. Again, I'm not a fan of bittorrent.

Which would be more beneficial?

My server has a 500 gigabyte hard drive on it, and I'm going to be moving the DVD iso over to it soon for hosting. Would it be better to do a direct download, or seed it?

If seed, how can I set up bittorrent in command line (not familiar with the programs a lot).

Depends on the bandwidth. If you don't have T1 or close, use bittorrent.

What is a good text-based bittorrent program I can just leave running?

And, does the file need to be named the same so bittorrent finds it?

(Also, I made my DVD iso using isomaster and the DVD I have. Which means I don't have the same md5sum as what was shown in this thread)
