Hi all...
I'm trying to install Slack on my Armada 4210T computer. It has no CD drive... So, I made the root and boot disks. It boots fine. There is, however, a problem. Slack just can't seem to get over the fact that there *might* be a CD there. When I type pcmcia, it hangs trying to mount a CD. Also, I can't use fdisk or cfdisk. I'm using the bare.i kernel. Any ideas where I can get a Slack kernel without ATAPI/IDE CD support?
Thanks, Taj
You'll always have a minimum of IDE support in there, it was too easy so Patrick put it into all of them.
Try hand editing the "pcmcia" script so that it gets rid of the attempt to mount a cdrom. The script will probably be on that initial ramdisk as /bin/pcmcia or /sbin/pcmcia or somesuch... you have vi available, so you should be able to comment out the lines where it tries for a cdrom and just let it snag everything from floppy as it should.
True.... Except for lowmem.i. That works like a charm. However, I really need pcmcia support. Also, with bare.i and then like, probe (the script for looking for partition) hangs whenever it's called (read: all the time)... So, I tried to build a new lowmem.i kernel with loadable module support. I keep getting the Error: Kernel Corrupt when booting. I've tried different floppys, even ones that I know work. Does this sound like a bad kernel build?
Also, should I use make bzImage or make bzdisk?
Thanks, Taj
