I got the nvidia driver from the link in the Sticky on this forum entitled "this is how I do everything"....I'm thinking reinstalling...I have the wrong mouse module and the wheel isn't working, driving me crazy....lol
you have to configure the xorg.conf for the mouse wheel to work.there's already a thread discussing mouse wheel.

I've used gslapt in ZW....but,
bash-3.1# installpkg gslapt-0.5.1.tar.gz
Cannot install gslapt-0.5.1.tar.gz: package does not end in .tgz
No...it's 3am here in florida...I'm failing...lol...I'll do that, thanks...I've been using dumbed down distro's so long I've forgotten many commands, etc...that's the reason I'm using Slack on this machine, to get back in shape...

its 3pm here.
try this site: http://software.jaos.org/
it already have a tgz for both slapt-get and gslapt.
When I go to the Xfce menu and select 'quit' and then select 'restart', it asks for a password...when I key in my root password, it tells me it's not correct and grays out the restart and quit option. I've never seen this. Also, I can even mount a flash drive unless I'm root...I want to change all that. I have no clue in Slack
Also, I'm online now...does Slack use a package manager? I need to install some things
It sounds like you need to add yourself to some groups.
These are the groups I'm in:
Code:
floppy
audio
video
cdrom
plugdev
power
you can check which groups you are in using a command like this:
Code:
cat /etc/group | grep <your username>
you can add yourself using (as root):
Code:
gpasswd -a <your username> <groupname you want to add yourself to>
ok guys...I cd'd into the directory where the wicd tar file is, logged in as root, run pkgtool and selected the first option to install the packages in that directory, hit enter, and it quickly goes right back to the command prompt without installing anything. Do I need to untar this first? what am I doing wrong....I can't find file roller on the system either...lol thanks !!
then trust me you are not in the directory where the tgz file is if it goes to a prompt then there is no tgz file in that directory.
Quote:
have you installed first the slapt-get?gslapt is just a gtk frontend of slapt-get.here's the site:
why would you want a buggy slapt-get when you already have a perfect slackpkg program that is part of the system.

I can still use slackpkg...I just want to see visually what is in the repos easily...I have no idea thanks
