setup printer on client machine(slackware 8) to server (slackware7) network printer

Can anyone give me advise on this issue? I am a newbie, please help me!
I am so confused about how to setup printer on client machine(slackware 8) to server (slackware7) network printer.
I have a server that is hooked up to a actiontec router and couple of switches to the window98 SE clients and static ip on the network printer.

Where does Windows come into it?

As far as the slackware -> slackware printing goes I would say its worth looking at http://www.cups.org. Its a really good print system and is support by Samba too, so if you wanted to make the same print queues available to your Windows boxes you can install Samba with CUPS support and just connect to the queues as if they were native Windows printers.

Slackware comes with apsFilter, which does a great job to manage and install printers. I suggest that you do some homework first, like for example doing a search here in linuxquestions.org.

Here, a quick start ... this is the search for apsfilter

Also if apsfilter does not helps, you can always try CUPS. Many prefers to
download and install CUPS instead of using apsFilter. Againg doing searches for cups will return many results.

I aready have windows 98 SE sharing network printer working but trying to setup another computer with slackware 8 to share network printer.

From what I know, once you have the printer ready, all you got to do is set up samba, and it will read the printcab file and share the printer. I think you can find a example in the /etc/samba/smb.conf-example file. I don't remember the exact name of the file, but it usually conmes with a example conf file to help you configure stuff.

I have everything working with network printer and windows but have trouble with linking network priinter with slackware 8 to my server that has slackware 7. I dont know how to join the network printer. also have problems with lp command it says that command not found. Can anyone tell me
what I should do.

Did you look at CUPS? If you are just using traditional lpr printing then you might find http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Printing-HOWTO/index.html useful. You'll basically just need to edit /etc/printcap to reflect the location of the remote printer.

I'm a little confused so here are a few questions:
1. You have a Win98 computer as a network server, which have a printer. Right?

2. And you want to be able to print from the skackware computer to the printer in the win98 computer. Right?

no, I have a server that is slackware 7 not window server but the server is hooked to a switch and then windows 98 SE is hooked to that switch and printer that has a static ip address. I have tried to configure the printcap but no luck.
the spool does not point to the network printer. Here is my printcap :

lp|hplj5n:\

any suggestion would be great!

So, basically, if the printer is CONECTED to the router and has a static IP, I suggest that you either consult the router's manual and/or go to the apsfilter wesite and look up how to do the printing to ip.
