[SOLVED] "screensaver" keeps blacking out the screen while all 3 are disabled

Here's a mystery. I have all three "screensavers" (screen locks or just neat graphics...I doubt any old vacuum tube tvs still exist these days) - power manager, Xfce, and X11. But after a restart to get Slackware to detect my external monitor again after it's been connected to the cable box for a while, the screensavers are still off, but something is still blanking the display for a little while.

Anyone ever see this before?
